Are you dealing with stress and the Coronavirus?
We are doing a series on tips for coping with anxiety over the Coronavirus. Many are asking “What is best for dealing with Coronavirus anxiety?” Great questions!
We’ve talked, in a previous videos, about how fear is the thing that causes conflict. This conflict may be in relationships, or this fear may be totally within ourselves. In this video we look specifically at what are some of the specific things that are causing fear and then we go into detail with one very specific and practical technique called “The Downward Arrow Technique.”
Dealing with the “What if…” mentalitiy
This technique is used by Chuck in his private practice to help his clients who get caught up in the “What if’s.” “What if this happens…What if that happens…” It actually does no good, whatsoever, to tell yourself to stop thinking these thoughts, though they are very damaging. Thus so, we say to go ahead and play the “What if game” but make sure that you play it all the way through. Here, Chuck and Keith take one very scary thought about job loss and use the downward arrow technique to make this thought less scary.
